I’m just excited about this blog , it’s my
very first time blogging, I’m nervous but I hope I do well . I’m willing to
learn and make the most out of this exciting venture.
The question is, is media release dead in the
age of social media? well almost everyone will have their own point of view on
this matter , news release seem to take space and time in ones e-mail inbox and
that just the irritating thing and annoying for most of people . They are just
a few people who still know how to proactively pitch a story and keep it
concise relevant and don’t make it all about the client but about the bigger
broad trend. Social media allows people to interact with people , and being able
to respond on each other’s comments , to me that’s just awesome than having to
read something that long and hard copy , and social media is just the opposite
off that were its easy to access its and does not take up time , makes one’s
life easier and stress free.
Every industry is adapting to the modern ways
in digital technology were as traditional media is shifting , media relations
is feeling the pressure to some growing pains , relationships are built and
maintained stakeholders are able to engage with external audience. I want to
have that space back in my email inbox that’s not over crowded. Truth is told
no matter no matter what you call it by or what form it takes digital media
will continue to evolve and grow even bigger, the function of a press release
is and will always be needed, just because the press release is a timeless PR
tool that does not mean we cannot let our approach to it stationary.
The 24/7 news cycle is incredibly amazing of
social media as to news traveler much faster and is able to reach a larger
audience much quicker. The industry is adapting to the new way of technology
and how things work in the new world we living in, in terms of instant
communication via social networks like twitter, face book, Google + and YouTube
the boring thing about twitter is that limited to 140 characters, and with a
press release that works in your favor as you able to give much more
information. This still does not answer my question as to not everyone will
agree will agree that social media has taken over and will even grow bigger. I say social media has taken over and will even grow bigger in the coming years.

Example of a press release

I agree with you mathabo that social media has taken the world but I still think that we do need news release some issues still need to be addressed formally and in social media it is hard to be all formal because any one can get to comment on your post
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Zinhle a press release is more formal and you not limited to write out all your information , we just need more people who will continue to publish good press release
ReplyDeleteYes i agree on what you are portraying. i also believe that social media have eradicated the traditional media.Things have changed and we are going digital. As much as media releases are still relevant i still believe that social media has opened so much opportunities for us in terms or communicating in a faster way.
ReplyDeleteI agree that social media is a good way for the organization to interact with their external stakeholders, but media releases are also still needed to be used by organizations because they provide facts which cannot be done on twitter for 140 characters
ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly social media is trending and taking over globally, but we cannot ignore the fact that Traditional media and news releases remain professional and are a need in most industries\ organisations for client purposes.
ReplyDeleteHilda that's true that with twitter you limited , but with other social platforms you are able to write out your information
ReplyDeletetrue that Refiloe but for how long will they survive
ReplyDeleteIt is a good thing that organisations adapt in this era, because sooner or later print media will be dead. through social media organisation can reach a wide audience as almost everyone is on social media.
ReplyDeleteI think its better to read something long and hard that gives you all the information than reading something short from social media and it leaves you with unanswered questions.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice. I totally agree that the media release is dead in the age of social media and its good for those organizations that have realized that social platforms are the future for their public relations activities.
ReplyDeletewow!! i definitely think print media is dying, however we need to think of the future generation, i think the less we read books and newspapers the more illiterate we will become. a great reader is an excellent writer. Regarding the news release, we can live without it.
ReplyDeleteim glad that you guys agree with me @ kefilwe and Nano
ReplyDeleteTrudy I disagree with you on that not all social media platforms are short , some do give all information , but like I said not everyone will agree that social media has taken over and will grow even bigger
ReplyDeleteI agree as well, I am however concerned about the point Nano has made, the dying of traditional media can lead to an illiterate future generation.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, in this fast paced world that we live in today, people do not have the time to sit down and read news releases. Companies can find new and better ways of letting their consumers know about them and social media is one of them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Rose... time is money for sure.
ReplyDeleteSince we are living in the digital age, I would have to say that social media has really taken the world by storm furthermore traditional media is no longer being noticed as it used to and most importantly its no longer considered important and respected as it once did.
ReplyDeletethanks Rose , franck and Mahlatesmsti for agree with me social media is the way forward
ReplyDeleteWell articulated Mathabo, love the fact that you added the fact that social media has taken the world by storm. I for one do not have time to read newspapers and news releases but get my news on twitter and other social media venues. I totally agree.
ReplyDeleteI say so too, but we should also remember the relevance of a media release too. Does it really we should forget about the relevance of reliable content? Or do we use social media as an advantage?
